Is Bennett Salvatore legally blind?

by beezer on March 26, 2009

This is the question asked by almost everyone who has watched a game in which Bennett Salvatore was one of the officials.  He consistently misses calls on what appear to be painfully obvious fouls.

Case in point: The Nuggets-Hornets game from last night.  Chris Paul was routinely mugged as he sliced to the basket, but Salvatore and his crew seemed to not notice at all.  What’s worse, James Posey and Rasual Butler couldn’t even look at who they were defending without drawing a foul.

So not only were they missing calls but they were inconsistent in their calling of fouls.

I understand that not every referee is going to call everything the same or see every foul, but Salvatore seems to miss more calls and make more bad calls per game than all the other refs.  How he has kept his job this long is beyond me.

Perhaps the league keeps he and Luis Grillo around to show that the NBA is not just for the heterosexual male.
