Before yesterday’s Celtics-Bulls play-off game, it was noted that 2 of the referee’s that, Dan Crawford and Bill Kennedy, were from Chicago. In fact, it is rumored that family members of the 2 officials left with Bulls gear. Add to that the fact that Kennedy was involved in a controversial ejection of Celtics coach Doc Rivers earlier this year and it makes you wonder:
Why would the NBA set themselves up for the inevitable media charges that these referee’s would be swayed by their hometown crowd?
Given the huge amounts of criticism the league gets regarding its officials, you’d think they would do a better job of avoiding situations like this. It’s just not a smart business decision.
