Good lord there were a lot of fouls in Saturday’s Spurs-Mavericks game. 49 personal fouls and 3 technicals.
One of those technicals was called by Mike “Duke” Callahan and was questionable at best. Dirk Nowitzki got called for a foul early in the firs quarter. As any player would, he voiced his displeasure and was IMMEDIATELY hit with a T by Callahan. Why is this controversial? Well, Dirk wasn’t yelling at the ref and he didn’t use profanity (he cusses in German because the referee’s can’t understand it). So why the technical? Because Callahan is a douche, that’s why.
He also handed out a technical to Maverick’s center Ryan Hollins after a put-back dunk. Hollins was called for taunting when he yelled after the dunk. He wasn’t yelling AT anyone, just an excited yell. Eric Dampier did the same thing earlier in the game with no reaction from the refs (and how many times have you seen LeBron do the same thing with no call).
Overall, the officiating was inconsistent at best but closer to atrocious.
