As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I was disappointed with the officials in two of the games for their lack of action when it came to very physical fouls.
Well, the officials in the Bulls-Celtics game Thursday night managed to crack the whip and keep things from getting out of control.
Near the end of the first quarter, Hinrich was backpedaling on defense and ran into Rondo. Rondo slung Hinrich into the scorers table and was immediately shoved back by Hinrich. Fortunately, Rondo didn’t retaliate and Del Negro restrained Hinrich.
The officiating crew of Joey Crawford, Derrick Stafford and Ed Malloy deliberated then assessed Hinrich with a technical and hit Rondo with a flagrant-1 foul.
You have to give credit to the referees and the league for cracking down on this stuff after the Brad Miller debacle. They really needed to keep this series and subsequent series from getting out of control.
